Domaine Du Colombier
Northern Rhone, Tain l'Hermitage
Wine Maker: Florent Viale

Florent Viale's passion is in the vineyard. He produces three reds - two cuvées of Crozes-Hermitage, the difference between them is the riper fruit goes into the ''Cuvee Gaby'' and it receives about twenty percent new Burgundian coopered oak. The third red of the Domaine is a majestic Hermitage. He only uses 600 litre Burgundian barrels, as the oak is only there to lend support and add dimension.

The fruit character in these wines is amazing - ripe, juicy and spicy raspberry and black fruits. They are beautifully balanced modern style Rhone wines with great flavour and concentration, structure, acidity and a wonderful lingering flavour.

Wine Available
2005 Crozes-Hermitage
Bright with raspberry and spice, some pepper, this is pure and medium bodied syrah with its northern Rhone origin written all over it. The finish is clean, spicy and long.

2005 Crozes-Hermitage ‘Cuvee Gaby’
This is richer and deeper than the Crozes with some gently smoky notes, still spicy with raspberry and blueberry notes. The palate is delicious, medium bodied but tight and a little more tannic courtesy of the wood, better with air and will certainly appreciate with six to twelve years cellaring.

2004 Hermitage
A wonderful deep purple color, the spicy floral notes are backed by plenty of dark plum, date and prune with gentle wood spice. The prune and date flavors of the palate are clean and fresh, the layers and depth of flavor is exceptional, a it has backbone and is a fresh Hermitage with a tight finish.
