2007 Cotes de Nuits-Villages 'Les Vignottes' Good ripeness, cherry and raspberry juicy and clean. Lovely fresh and pinosity, some present tannin providing backbone, lovely. '(35% new wood and the rest in one-year old wood). Here the nose is even earthier with similar red pinot fruit, underbrush and the same jerky hint that transfers over to the rich, round and supple flavors that are unusually forward on the mid-palate but tightem up on the balanced and persistent finish. This too delivers better than average if not truly outstanding quality for its level. (86-89)/2011+' Burghound 2007 Nuits-St-Georges 'Les Fleurières' A little subdued today, hinting at florals (this vineayard used to be a garden – hence the name) all the elements are there - ripe strawberry fruit flavors combine with a fine elegant structure, well balanced. '(from a parcel that sits right below the Nuits 1er Les Pruliers). Light wood spice doesn’t detract from earthy and expressive red berry fruit aromas that introduce round, supple and vibrant middle weight flavors that are easy but not simple and culminate in a delicious, punchy and persistent finish. While not an elegant wine, it certainly is more refined than one typically finds for a Nuits villages. Lovely and worth a look. (87-89)/2012+' Burghound 2004 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Chaboeufs' 'Medium red. Dark cherry, mocha, meat and underbrush on the nose. Supple and sweet in the mouth, with a firm edge of acidity and a note of porcini. This round, slightly high-toned wine is already approachable, and here the tannins are distinctly finer than those of the Fleurieres' 88, Stephen Tanzer 2006 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Les Chaboeufs' 'A relatively pungent nose features wood spice and ripe, earthy and intense dark berry fruit aromas that slide into full-bodied, rich and suave but powerful flavors that possess perhaps even more dry extract on the firm, long and impressively palate staining finish. This is very Nuits in character with real verve. Impressive. 92/2014+' Burghound 2004 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru 'Aux Boudots' Medium red. Slightly diffuse aromas of cherry, spices, flowers and underbrush. Sweet and rich but closed; more dominated by its structure than the Chaboeufs. Suggestions of candied fruits and resiny oak. Finishes with substantial chewy tannins and sound acidity, but a lightly peppery quality gives a faint dry edge to the fruit. 88' Stephen Tanzer 2006 Clos Vougeot, Grand Cru *sold out* '(from 40+ year old vines situated at the very top of the hill hard by the Château). Meunier indicated that this was harvested at 13.6% yet despite the obvious ripeness, the now expressive nose is a complex mix of earthy dark berry fruit and game, mocha and chocolate hints that continue onto the strikingly rich and broad-shouldered flavors that are also suave yet powerful, all while retaining excellent focus and balance on the impressively long finish. This is the ripest wine in the range yet it stops well short of being candied or jammy. In sum, this isn’t especially classy but it is delicious. 92/2015+' Burghound 2006 Romanée St Vivant, Grand Cru *sold out* '(from vines planted in 1922). As is usually the case, there is an extra dimension of aromatic depth and breadth with superior elegance as well though that is of course to be expected. The notably ripe yet fresh and pure nose ranges from red, blue and black crushed fruit aromas nuanced by spice, floral and subtle earth hints that are picked up on the intense, concentrated and hugely long finish. This has just as much dry extract as the Clos de Vougeot and the length here is stunning plus in this case, the class definitely shows. 94/2015+' Burghound | |||||||||
