Tollot-Beaut & Fils
Burgundy, Chorey-Les-Beaune
Wine Maker: Jean-Paul Tollot

Everything about this fine Domaine is attractive - even the elaborately decorated concrete cuves. The Tollot's and the Beaut's have remained together for many generations and have therefore maintained excellent and valuable vineyard holdings.

The retirement of the Domaine’s elder statesman has left the door open for the younger generation - cousins Nathalie, Jean-Paul and Olivier, to make further subtle changes and advancements at this progressive and fine Domaine.

The yields are lower and the wines are racked less, for many years this has always been a consistent source of delightful and serious Burgundy.

'For the Tollots, the production of a truly fine wine is an amalgam of a multitude of smaller inter-related details. Their reds are highly individual, accentuating the ripe, succulent, almost sweet flavours of which the Pinot Noir is deliciously capable. The Tollots are a fine band of brothers and a reliable source of delicious wines - individuals, made collectively, of course.' Remington Norman MW

Wine Available
2005 Bourgogne blanc
Mealy and vanillan oak with ripe pear, nectarine and cream notes. The palate is rich full and ripe with peach and apricot flavors featuring lacy acidity and creamy finish.
'The Bourgogne blanc is usually excellent - plenty of ripe fruit, good acidity, round complex and mouthfilling. It is a wine which invariably outclasses itself, made with thr Tollot thoroughness and concern for quality.' Remington Norman MW

2006 Corton-Charlemagne, Grand Cru
'(from a .25 ha parcel situated in Aloxe that is on the Ladoix border, aged in 65% new wood). A discreet touch of wood sets off notably fresher green fruit and pretty floral aromas that precede rich, full and mouth coating flavors that possess excellent depth and subtle minerality on the vibrant and extended finish. This is not a truly great Tollot Charlemagne, at least not by the elevated standards of this excellent wine but it is more than respectable. 91/2012+' Burghound
The [Tollot] Corton-Charlemagne, made from a plot of 40 year old vines in Le Corton ... the wine is usually fine rather than overtly muscular - to be drunk perhaps while the succulent fruit of youth is still there rather than waiting for too long for the uncertainty of old age. It is invariably an attractive example of the appellation.' Remington Norman MW

2006 Chorey-Les-Beaune – 375ml -
'An expressive nose of raspberry and cranberry leads to round, supple and actually lighter weight flavors that possess slightly denser if finer tannins. This is clearly more elegant but actually no more complex. 86/2010+' Burghound

2006 Chorey-Les-Beaune ‘Pièce du Chapitre’
'(from a 1.7 ha parcel of 50+ year old vines). Here the fruit is just a bit riper with an earthy character to the mostly red berry fruit aromas that merge into supple, round and forward flavors that are both detailed and pure on the delicious, balanced and long finish. This is a really lovely Chorey and worth a look. 88/2011+' Burghound

2006 Savigny-Champ-Chevrey 1er Cru, Monopole
'When people ask me where in Burgundy do you consistently find good value reds I say to them these three words SAVIGNY - LES - BEAUNE.' Allen Meadows at Circa, the Prince, Melbourne 29.08.05

2006 Savigny-Champ-Chevrey 1er Cru, Monopole, Magnum
'Here there is a bit more aromatic depth to the mostly red berry fruit as the earth and iron notes are just short of pungent and continue onto the more powerful if less refined middle weight flavors that possess a bit more mid-palate concentration and slightly better length as well. 88/2011+' Burghound

2006 Beaune 1er Cru ‘Clos du Roi’
'As one would expect given the precocious nature of Clos du Roi, this is notably riper with a mix of red and dark berry fruit elements, earth and a hint of underbrush that is followed by rich, full and very generous mediumbodied flavors that are delicious if somewhat less complex than the Chenevery, all wrapped in a mouth coating and naturally sweet finish. While this is by no means heavy, it lacks the energy of the best in the range. To enjoy young. 87/2010+' Burghound

2006 Corton, Grand Cru
'(from Les Combes aged in 60% new wood). A much more elegant as well as more complex red and blue pinot fruit nose combines with rich, full and much finer full-bodied flavors that are less obviously structured as the mid-palate fat really buffers the otherwise firm tannins on the balanced, serious and long finish. This is a powerful wine yet everything is well focused and effortless. I quite like this as it’s a Corton with both style and grace. 92/2014+' Burghound

2006 Corton-Bressandes, Grand Cru
'This is another small step up in aromatic elegance and refinement with moderately high-toned and gorgeously pure red berry fruit aromas that are notably mineral in character and this minerality continues onto the detailed, rich and energetic medium weight plus flavors that culminate in a dusty, mouth coating and equally driving finish. A choice and while this is slightly riper the Corton is perhaps slightly more complex. 92/2014+' Burghound
