Michelot
Burgundy, Meursault
Wine Maker: Jean-François Mestre

This is always one of the great lines-ups of new release white Burgundies I have the pleasure to experience; very stylish, powerful and supremely interesting Meursault’s which are absolutely delicious to boot.

Jean-François Mestre took control in 1998 and the wines since have been nothing short of exceptional. The quality of this fine Domaine certainly rivals the best that Burgundy has to offer at very attractive prices.

'Since 1998 the wines of Michelot have consistently rated amongst the top echelon of Meursault producers.'

Wine Available
2007 Montmeix Bourgogne blanc (de-classified Meursault)
Bottled under Screwcap. Direct floral fine elegant mineral, nutty with white fruits and background oak. The palate is pure, precise, focused flavorsome, mineral and energetic. One of the best quality and high value Chardonnay's on the market today.

2006 Meursault ‘Clos St Felix’ MONOPOLE available in 375ml & 750ml
From a 1 hectare plot abutting the Domaine; Very fine and ripe; white fruited clean, pure and fresh with a hint if gardenia and stone fruit. The palate is wonderful with it focus and precision, the white nectarine flavors build slowly through the seamless gently citrussy long finish.
'Bright, pale yellow. Aromas of mirabelle, apricot and honeycomb, lifted by a floral topnote. Ripe and silky but with good purity of fruit and structure. More elegantly styled and shapely than the lush and rather exotic Sous La Velle that preceded it in my tasting. Finishes sweet and persistent, with good grip. 88 points' Tanzer

2006 Puligny-Montrachet
(Just below Clavaillon) Lovely fine white fruited number with next to zero winemaker influence noted; the complexity is all in the fruit character which is supremely elegant. The palate is soft and round with no fat; it plays line and length beautifully. An understated wine which all about elegance and slate.

2005 Meursault ‘Les Narvaux’
Ripe apricot fruit notes this is ripe and concentrated on the nose with lovely funky complexity made up of the earth, meal, and dirt nuances. The palate is richly fruited with a round soft texture with grilled nuts, apricot and honey with a wonderful dry mineral etched finish.
'Pale yellow. Nose began with deeply pitched aromas of lanolin, honey and nut oil but with aeration showed higher-pitched violet and lemon. Supple, dry and clean in the mouth, offering fleshy flavors of peach, honey, nuts, sweet butter and stone. As with the nose, this grew fresher as it opened in the mouth. Finishes dry in a positive way. 88 points' Tanzer

2006 Meursault 1er Cru ‘Les Charmes’
Elegant and fine but ripe, the fruit character is as ripe as the rest of the 2006s but it is the elegance which is so striking in this wine. The palate is beautifully poised, medium bodied, white fruits, lacy even with a building finish that drives on quite powerfully.
'Aromas of lemon cream and white truffle; I might have picked this as a 2007 from the nose. Then juicy, fat but uncompromisingly dry, with very taut lemon cream, mineral and crushed stone flavors. The firm, almost tannic finish features excellent grip and aromatic persistence but calls for three or four years of cellaring. Here the terroir has successfully resisted the vintage character. 92 points.' Tanzer

2004 Meursault 1er Cru ‘Perrieres’
Very fine and elegant, this is backward and aristocratic on the nose with nectarine and apricot nuances. The palate is delicious with delicate pear fruit flavors and some green apple in a seamless and classy package that will benefit from 6-10 years in the cellar.
Pale yellow-straw color. Subtly complex nose offers lemon, minerals, toast, flowers and powdered stone. Dense, dry and minerally, with a distinctly stony character. A bit unforthcoming, even inscrutable, today. Finishes long, subtle and youthfully austere, with classic lemon and mineral notes. 91+ points.' Tanzer

2006 Meursault 1er Cru ‘Perrieres’
The oak is just noticeable here, which really says something as the 1ers only see 25-30 % new. A wine of rich and creamy notes with lovely lime and white peach and spring flowers – very sophisticated. The palate is supremely elegant and restrained to begin then delivers wonderful grunt with its white peach and nectarine flavors and the perfectly harmonized finish with that typical Perrieres bell pepper on the finish.
'High-pitched aromas of orange and stone, with a superripe aspect that reminded me of an Alsace pinot gris VT. Fat, sweet and tactile, with a powerful minerality and sneaky acidity keeping the exotic orange flavor from coming off as too exotic. An explosive and slightly aggressive wine, already a satisfying drink. This boasts good energy but the Charmes is more backward and typical of its cru, while this is more influenced by its vintage. 91+ points.' Tanzer

2006 Meursault 1er Cru ‘Genevrieres’
Very classy juice here, this is fine, rich, restrained, complex and finessed with its gently mealy notes, white fruits and honey. The palate is ripe, natural and complete with all its elements in perfect harmony. The detail is finite and the class is written all over this rich and precise Genevrieres truly delicious now and will be over the next ten to fifteen years.
'Reticent, slightly exotic aromas of orange oil and ginger. Fleshy and sweet, with an almost buttery richness to its soft citrus flavors. Less sharply delineated and a bit warmer than the Charmes but plenty fat. 90 points' Tanzer
