Euan McKay, founder and owner. Since 1996.

Euan McKay spent 10 years as a print industry executive prior to making the transition to the Melbourne wine trade in 1994. The decision to turn his passion into a career saw him craft a dynamic niche importing business specialising in the wines of eastern France.

Euan’s first professional wine industry job was with fine wine retailer, importer and mentor Graeme Lynch. In 1995 Euan worked vintage at Château Haut-Marbuzet in Bordeaux prior to an extensive field study discovering the best producers of eastern France.

On his return to Australia Euan established his business, Euan McKay Wine Merchant, and in 1996 his first shipment landed in Melbourne. Today Euan’s company represents some of the finest producers of France as well as the Mosel in Germany.

Euan travels to France each year to taste the new vintage, source new producers and secure the best wine from each grower. He sources all products direct from each producer (without the use of agents or intermediaries) and ships all wine in refrigerated trucks and containers from the cellar door ensuring every bottle arrives in his air conditioned warehouse in Melbourne in perfect condition.

Euan’s direct relationship with his principals in France and Germany is strong and personable, with an excellent understanding of each grower’s viticultural philosophy and wine-making techniques.

Euan McKay Wine Merchant is one of Australia’s most experienced shipping companies of French wine. Euan is widely acknowledged as one of Australia’s leading commentators and educators on the wines and history of Burgundy, Alsace, and the Rhône Valley in France as well as the Mosel Valley in Germany.
